18' Chris Craft Classic Replica

Design Concept

Gordon Scrim had been looking at a number of designs for runabouts, but most were for split cockpit boats with the two cockpits separated by the engine, which were not that friendly because no-one wants to sit in the aft cockpit, as you get wet, and conversation between the two is impossible.

Gordon found the Mariners' Museum website www.mariner.org in the USA who have all the Chris Craft plans.  Gordon purchased a set of plans but also included some of his own modifications; the result - Fleetwood a replica of an 18' 1950 Chris Craft Riviera.

Construction

Fleetwood was strip-planked with a combination of 13mm and 16mm DuraKore planks and reinforced on either side of the planking with triaxial E-fibreglass to complete the structure.  KINETIX® R246TX epoxy with H126 Super Fast laminating hardener ensure a tough, durable laminate that will require minimal maintenance.

Structural bonding, filleting and fairing of the hull were completed with a mixture of WEST SYSTEM® R105 epoxy resin, and the appropriate powder modifiers were chosen for each specific application.
